REDECISION THERAPY
Redecision Therapy was developed in 1965 by Bob and Mary Goulding. It is a
combination of Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy.
This process is a powerful way of resolving family of origin issues as well as
internal conflicts. It is ideal for both short and long-term therapy.
As children grow up, they are given positive and negative messages by their
caretakers and society. Based on these messages, they make decisions about
themselves and others that will direct them throughout their lives. These
decisions were necessary for children to survive in their families; but as adults,
these negative decisions are no longer useful and become hindrances to getting
what they want. In fact, they are at the root of self-defeating patterns in
their lives. Adults pick friends, jobs, and romantic partners who replicate
their childhood struggles and support the decisions they made.
One of the tenets of Redecision Therapy is that a self enhancing redecision can
only be made when a client is experiencing the same intensity of thought,
feeling, and behavior that was present when the original decision was made.
Traditional psychotherapeutic techniques often provide tremendous insight for
clients, but fail to achieve significant behavioral change because the emotional
intensity does not match the earlier decision. As clients are re-experiencing
the original pain, they are supported by the Redecision Therapist to redecide.
Linda Paoli LCSW trained with Bob and Mary Goulding for four years. She uses a
unique empowering blend of Redecision Therapy, hypnotic techniques, cognitive
therapy, Bioenergetics, psycho-education, and behavioral interventions.
