About Brad

Brad Gilbert, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) is in private practice specializing in sex and love addiction, EMDR therapy, marital conflict, anxiety, trauma, and Group Therapy.

Brad will help you through your difficulties with compassion, yet he will direct you to specific action when you need that support.

Brad is skilled at finding problematic behavioral and emotional patterns that clients have been unable to recognize on their own. When Brad helps his clients begin to see the behavioral and emotional patterns they are moved to take action to make real changes and they become closer in their relationships, to themselves and others. Brad’s approach includes Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic, as well as the use of EMDR Therapy for trauma and anxiety processing. When working with couples he also uses the Imago approach. Through the Imago approach clients find that seemingly irrational thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can be understood and healed by finding their underlying unsatisfied needs and childhood experiences. Thus, bringing them into the present day context of a marriage or partnership. The couple works toward greater acceptance of each other through insights, specific exercises and behavioral changes, creating a deeper, stronger connection with each other. In his private sessions and group therapy Brad reflects a good sense of humor while affirming the human condition.

Brad received his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio in 1991. He began working in the mental health field in 1992 and was a Licensed Social Worker from 1993 to 1999. Brad moved to California and took 2 years of acupuncture college at Five Branches Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine and continued his training in Chinese Medicine through the healing work of Medical Qigong through the International Institute of Medical Qigong where he received his Master’s in Medical Qigong in 2003. In 2001 he also began using Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) on numerous issues including trauma, addictions, anxiety, and phobias. Brad worked for Community Addiction Recovery Association from 2004 to 2009 helping drug addicts with qigong, EFT, nutrition and amino acid therapy at Sacramento County Drug Court. Since then he graduated with a masters degree in Counseling Psychology from National University in 2010 and has specialized training in Julia Ross’ Amino Acid Therapy (a nutritional approach to mood and diet health). After extensive internships including over 5 years with Heart Healer Founder Linda Paoli, LCSW, CSAT-S, Brad became Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist and a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist in 2016.

Though Brad has a somewhat eclectic background he only utilizes what is the most appropriate and beneficial in his present day psychotherapy practice. He has taught over 50 public health and wellness courses, classes and workshops and hundreds of group classes privately.
